- Plain, unsweetened yogurt
- Food grade dye
I didn’t try many food-related sensory plays with our infant, other than letting our son explore feeding himself at every opportunity as he shows interest. We were still palmar-grasping avocado and bananas and sweet potato at nearly eight months old, which are good foods to introduce at this stage if you haven’t already; cooked spaghetti noodles and yogurt are two sensory food experiences I recommend at this age to explore mess making.
I prepared a designated “destruction zone” before mixing up some colored yogurt. Although he enjoyed it at first, it got a bit chilly in our drafty house not too long into the game – it was still a great medium in which to explore color (we chose blue).
